TV Spoilers & Speculation Corner: 9/13/10

This week, we continue with spoilers from V, The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural:

V (Tuesday nights, 10pm, ABC)

By Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Not many new spoilers to report this week, except for an interview with Laura Vandervoort, who plays Lisa. The actress talks about how her character grew from a minor player to a more complex character. She also talked about Tyler, explaining that “Lisa is questioning her people and moving toward The Fifth Column, and Tyler is obsessed with the Vs and thinks what the Fifth Column is doing is horrible, so that might tear them apart.”

Good, I say.

Ilana’s V Site contains an interview with Sarah Douglas (Pamela on the original V). Ilana also mentions that Sarah Douglas, Jane Badler, Morena Baccarin, and Laura Vandervoort might be attending New York Comic Con this October.

In other news, Mark Hildreth (Joshua) has posted about his next album, saying it will “be an album much more contemplative and perhaps a little darker than the first. More of a David Gray sound.”

Oh, and Jane Badler is heading back to Vancouver.

The Vampire Diaries (Thursday nights, 8pm, CW)
By Carla Lee

* Synopsis released for episode 2.4: “Memory Lane”.
— DAMON MAKES A DANGEROUS ENEMY – Stefan (Paul Wesley) takes drastic measures to find out the real reason Katherine (Nina Dobrev) has returned to Mystic Falls and is shocked when she reveals new secrets about what really happened in 1864. Damon (Ian Somerhalder) tries a new tactic to resolve his issues with Mason, (guest star Taylor Kinney)…but it proves costly. Tyler (Michael Trevino) pushes Mason to tell him the truth about the Lockwoods. Finally, when Katherine delivers an ultimatum, Stefan and Elena (Nina Dobrev) are left with very few options. Sara Canning, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig and Matt Davis also star. Rob Hardy directed the episode written by Caroline Dries (#204).

— Wait, Tyler still doesn’t know the truth by episode four? Damn it, show.
— Vampires versus werewolves much with Damon and Mason? Still, I’m looking forward to seeing more of Mason.

* Michael Trevino (Tyler) talks about season two.

— Apparently, Mason “feeds Tyler bits and pieces of information here and there.” Dude, I do not understand why he doesn’t just come right out and tell Tyler what he is! The viewers know, SHOW! Stop dragging it out, tell him what it is, and deal with the dramatic fallout from that.
— There will be a lot of scenes taking place in the Lockwood home and some day-to-day with Tyler. This is exciting. More opportunities for werewolf activity.
— Episode three is the big episode where Tyler gets a revelation and the audience learns more about him.
— There will be flashback scenes for the Salvatore and Lockwood families. Excellent. Vampire versus werewolf in flashback form.

* Episode 2.2: “Brave New World” sneak peak.
— Damon is snarky! Damon and Stefan talk about the potential Lockwood family secret! I am looking forward to this episode even more!
— Source: http://damon-salvatore.net/2010/09/11/vampire-diaries-brave-new-world-sneak-peek/

* Episode 2.2: “Brave New World” spoilers.
— Caroline does appear as a vampire (as is obvious from the trailers) and leaves the hospital to join her friends at the Mystic Falls carnival, confused and desperate. Poor Caroline. She’s gone through so much crap. Damon wants to kill her, but Stefan and Elena come to her defense. Matt is, of course, confused by her weird actions, but does try to talk to her about how he feels for her. Poor Matt. You’re not having much luck either.
— Damon, suspicious of Mason, tries to use Tyler’s volatile personality in an attempt to get Mason to reveal his secret. Go Damon! More manipulation is awesome.
— Bonnie gets pissed and takes it out on Damon. This may not go as well as she thinks. She ends up surrounded by fire for some reason. I can’t wait to see why, nor to see what she does about it. Bonnie using her magic is my second-favourite part of this show. (Thefirst obviously being the werewolves.)

We’re covering vampires all month on Thursdays.

Supernatural (Friday nights, 9pm, CW)
By Paula R. Stiles

Supernatural, of course, comes back in two weeks on its new day – Friday, September 24 at 9pm. So, we’re devoting Fridays in September to it. Even though the CW is showing repeats of Hellcats and Nikita those last two weeks [sigh]. On a happier front, TNT is doing a 15-episode marathon on the 24th, which includes season five episodes for the first time.

The big news this week, of course, involves the three official promos that came out. The first one (now called “Family“) appeared toward the end of The Vampire Diaries season premiere. The second, longer (and main) one, apparently now called “Trust”, appeared during the first commercial break for the series premiere of Nikita (which I suffered through for all your sakes). The third, “Friends“, was put out on the CW site a couple of hours later. All three promos include footage of Dean as a family man, with Dean voiceover to Sam like, “You’ve been back all this time and you didn’t tell me?” or Sam saying, “After everything that’s happened, you earned a regular life.” There’s Bobby stuff, too. The most significant statement is Dean (in two out of three) saying, “This is happening because of me!” The title cards read things like, “Family/Friends are about trust. Trust no one.” We get a brief sequence of Sam looking sinister in a suit (as he shoots someone or something), as well as brief clips of Lisa being shot (?) and Fred Lehne’s YED standing in Dean’s garage, laughing.

Also out on SpoilerTV is an official synopsis for 6.02, “Two and a Half Men”:

“SAMUEL CREATES CONFLICT BETWEEN DEAN AND SAM – Sam (Jared Padalecki) investigates a case about missing babies whose parents are being murdered. At one of the crime scenes, he discovers a baby that was left behind and calls Dean (Jensen Ackles) for help. Reluctant to leave Lisa (guest star Cindy Sampson) and Ben (guest star Nicholas Elia), Dean finally agrees to meet Sam and surprises his brother with how parental he has become…. The brothers take the baby to Samuel (Mitch Pileggi), who decides to raise it as a hunter, which infuriates Dean. However, before they can decide the baby’s future, a shape-shifter breaks in and attempts to kidnap the baby. John Showalter directed the episode written by Adam Glass (##602).”

SpoilerTV also put up titles to 6.08 (“All Dogs Go to Heaven”, apparently about a “skinwalker” and I’m not understanding how that’s different from a shapeshifter) and 6.09 (“Clap Your Hands If You Believe”. Let me guess – it’s the Edlund fairies one).

More set photos for 6.06, this time heavily featuring Ackles (with great debate as to what that “thing” on his head is in some shots, ’cause this fandom has way too much time on its hands), as well as a photo of Ackles posing with guest star Holly Eglinton (It’s unclear if this is for 6.06 or 6.07).

There’s a new double interview with Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles. The questions were a lot of the usual suspects, but Padalecki gave a particularly detailed response about his take on remakes and Ackles a particularly thoughtful response to the perennial question of how he feels about never having gone to college. Padalecki also gave a video interview to CW Connect, which talked a bit about filming season five.

A number of season five reviews are out. Sales seem to have been excellent so far, with the DVDs/Blurays with extras from Best Buy (a surprisingly heavy and sturdy Impala keychain) and Target (a surprisingly detailed bonus 30-minute disk of 100th episode extras) in particular selling out in many stores on the very first day. Yes, we’ll be reviewing the DVD.

The Supernatural soundtrack CD is also out. We’ll be reviewing that, too. Especially now that I have it.

Ausiello has a brief spoiler about Castiel’s role in the upcoming season, though nothing hugely spoilery:
Question: Any news on what will happen to Castiel on Supernatural this season? – Minha
Ausiello: This season’s first two episodes will be Cas-free, but the full-powered angel returns in spectacular fashion in week 3. ‘Let’s just say some angels show up that are not so happy,’ teases exec producer Sera Gamble. ‘Cas and an angel go through a window at one point, and the result is not pretty. It’s a pretty spectacular stunt.'”

EW did an overview of Supernatural, among other CW shows, in this week’s issue.

I’ve run across some old-ish blurbs for the Supernatural anime series. Looks like they’re redoing old episodes in addition to/instead of original stories. There’s also a trailer. The first blurb would explain the laser eyes in the trailer.

So, speculation. Oh, my, where to start? How about those promos? Aside from the brief clip of Bobby and Crowley from 6.04 put out at Comic-Con, this is the first footage of season six. As in the past, the footage is more interesting (or at least, not as aggravating) as on-paper spoilers. It is also very, very Dean-centric, with Sam appearing, but as a sinister figure whom Dean apparently can’t trust. Dean seems to feel that all this disruption is his fault (Someone on IMDB suggested it might be his attempts to free Sam dislodged something or opened a seal and that he really is originally responsible for what’s happening).

Dean also appears to be angry with Sam and Bobby for having lied to him (and the 6.02 blurb indicates he’s not too happy with Grandpa Campbell, either). The Sam voiceover indicates that Sam and the others (previous spoilers have stated that Bobby and Co. know about Sam) were trying to protect Dean by not telling him Sam was out. Naturally, as any Lovecraft or Poe reader could have told them (or just remembering season four), this was a very unwise thing to do, as a disturbed and broken person like Dean, if he feels desperate and pushed to the wall, may do terrible things, with consequences for everyone. This may explain why Sam is unsympathetic that Dean didn’t go off and have a happy life without him. On the other hand, the promos also indicate that Sam has been stalking Dean, so you’d think he’d have noticed how well his big brother was or wasn’t doing. I do like, though, that Sam has to go to Dean for help (more than once) and Dean isn’t terribly interested, which is a definite flip from previous seasons, when Dean was All About Sam.

Spoilers also indicate that Dean is very devoted to his new family and loves them a lot, being unwilling to bail on them to run off and hunt. Good for him. But what with the YED stuff and the brief cut of Lisa getting shot, I’m going to take a wild guess that the promos might be even more misleading this season, what with the possibility that pretty much anything could be an hallucination or dream, Dean having an unusually flexible grasp on reality.

Episode 6.06 seems to be taking forever to wrap. Ackles had said at the Vancouver con that production had become more expensive and drawn-out, which would explain why 6.03 and 6.06 seem to have taken so long (The vampire episode, especially, seems very involved). We’ll see what the results are soon enough.
