New TV pilot to shoot in Innsmouth

by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Only weeks after filming for Tentacles from the Sea 3-D wrapped, a new group of producers has descended onto our fair town of Innsmouth to scout locations. It seems part of the pilot for the new TV show Heir of Dracula could be shot at Innsmouth Central Cemetery and the Innsmouth Library.

The pilot will follow the adventures of Alucard, the half-vampire son of Count Dracula, and his quest to avenge the death of his fiancée at the hands of his father. Van Helsing, Mina Murray and Jonathan Harker also appear.

“It’ll be a bit of steampunk and a bit of horror and some action,” says production assistant Yuko Yamamoto. “Innsmouth would stand in for Whitby, where the count first arrives and a lot of the story takes place.”

Yamamoto says she fell in love with Innsmouth’s architecture after a location scout sent back some pictures.

“I think it would be very fitting if we filmed here,” she says. “The scout told me there was a tuberculosis outbreak in Innsmouth back in the 1810s and they blamed it on vampires. There’s some history to go with the nice backgrounds.”

However, not everyone is thrilled with the prospect of a television crew shooting at Innsmouth Central Cemetery. The board of cemetery managers is worried the crew could disrupt the gravestones and gravemarkers, some of which are centuries old.
