Found on the Net: Shadow of the Eternals

By Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Here’s another Found on the Net and here’s another crowd-sourcing campaign. I know – when isn’t there one?

Canadian developer Precursor Games has launched a crowd-funding campaign for Shadow of the Eternals, an episodic action/adventure game that is described as “mind-altering psychological horror.” The game will be delivered in downloadable “episodes.” They are looking for a big chunk of change: $1.5 million.

The pilot episode for the game begins when a detective arrives at the site of a massacre in Louisiana. It then jumps back in time to Hungary and Čachtice Castle, home to the noblewoman, Erzébet Bathory.

The game is pitched as a spiritual successor to Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Developer Precursor Games purchased game assets and hardware from the Silicon Knights, makers of Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem. Several former Silicon Knights staffers, including Eternal Darkness director Denis Dyack, are now part of Precursor and working on the project.

The Shadow of the Eternals story spans over two thousand years. The company is planning 12 episodes for its first season. The first episode should be available on the Wii U and PC in 2014.
