Cthulhu Haiku Contest Rules and Prizes
Prizes
First place:
- $15 CAD
- the last six issues of the speculative magazine Dreams and Nightmares
- a PDF copy of the speculative magazine Greatest Uncommon Denominator (GUD)
- a copy of the anthology Cthulhu Unbound published by Permuted Press
Second place:
- $10 CAD
- a PDF copy of the speculative magazine Greatest Uncommon Denominator (GUD)
- a copy of the anthology Cthulhu Unbound published by Permuted Press
- a copy of Karen L. Newman’s poetry collections EEKU and Toward Absolute Zero
Third place:
- $5 CAD
- a copy of Writers of the Future XXIV
- issue 10 of the speculative magazine Shimmer
Prize money paid upon publication. Books/magazines will be mailed or e-mailed after October 31.
Rules
- Must be in haiku form (see here for haiku rules: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haiku_in_English).
- Must have an element of Cthulhu Mythos/Lovecraft.
- We are more concerned about the subject matter and general form than syllabic counts or seasonal references (though extra points if you can get those in).
- Maximum of three poems per person.
- Contest submission period: August 3 to September 3, 2009. Results will be posted on Halloween 2009.
- Submit entries to: innsmouthfp(at)gmail(dot)com in the body of the text. No attachments.

Is there a limit to the number of submissions allowed from a single poet?
Does Ia count as one or two syllables?
Maximum three from a single poet, please.
It sounds like one syllable to me, but then again I think it’s up to you.
If we like it, we wont mind if it is two or one syllables.
