It’s hard being a parent these days. Kids don’t want to worship Dagon. They just want to play video games and text message each other. What’s a parent to do to ensure the little ones are properly indoctrinated into Cthulhuism? Why, you can start by reading them a copy of “The Call of Cthulhu” by H.P. Lovecraft. For beginning readers.
DrFaustusAU, an Australian illustrator, has placed full-colour illustrations of “The Call” (as if it were penned by Dr. Seuss) up on deviantART. Each spread features the standard Dr. Seuss rhymes and artwork, but adapted to include Lovecraft characters.
Cthulhu, as a statue in the Dr. Seuss style, is incredibly adorable.
This is not the first time that children’s stories have collided with Mythos. Well…it’s not the first time anything has collided with Mythos, as smashups are aplenty these days. Remember Garfield as Cthulhu. No? The Lovecraftsman published a list of cartoon characters, reimagined as Mythos characters, which you might want to check out.
