Lots of Full Moons in this Town: Review of Wolf Lake

  • March 8, 2010

By Carla Lee

It was difficult picking something to review this week, in part because some of the things which most piqued my interest are difficult to get in time to review them, but also because I wasn’t sure which actor’s oeuvre to pull from next. Choosing a Nina Dobrev movie to start my hiatus reviews was easy, because Elena is by far my favourite character. (At least, who hasn’t been killed off.) In the end, I’ve just followed IMDB’s …

We’re not the hunters. We’re the prey. Review of Never Cry Werewolf (2008)

  • February 22, 2010

By Carla Lee

[major spoilers]

Never Cry Werewolf. House Next Door Films/Red Duck Films, Canada. First aired May 11, 2008 on the Sci-Fi Channel.

Or, as I like to call it, Nina Dobrev’s practice run for The Vampire Diaries.

Once again The Vampire Diaries is on hiatus. To fill the empty, episode-less weeks, I’ve chosen a selection of media which include older roles by the cast. First up is Never Cry Werewolf, a made-for-television movie starring Nina …

Love is a Many-Blooded Thing: The Vampire Diaries 1.14: “Fool Me Once”

  • February 15, 2010

By Carla Lee

It is fitting that the episode before Valentine’s Day (1) is one that highlights the importance of love in the world of The Vampire Diaries. Family love, friendship love and romantic love are at the heart – puns completely intended – of the story.

This emphasis on love has been an ongoing thread throughout this season, but becomes particularly clear in the sacrifices the characters make for each other during this episode.

From the beginning of …

By Damned, You Mean Women, Right? The Vampire Diaries 1.13: “Children of the Damned”

  • February 8, 2010

By Carla Lee

I am tired of this rollercoaster ride of appreciation and exasperation toward The Vampire Diaries. It seems like every few episodes, just as I start to love the show, it kills off another supernatural powerful sexual woman and I am back to strongly disliking it, and then the process begins all over again, as it starts doing things which are slightly ridiculous but still pretty wonderful and my love begins to grow again. This episode, after …

More like Snoozeville: Vampire Diaries: 1.12: “Unpleasantville”

  • February 1, 2010

By Carla Lee

First, a correction. Last week, I couldn’t get my closed captioning to work on my television (I think I’m going to need a new television soon, unfortunately) and so, hit up IMDB.com when I didn’t catch Bonnie’s grandmother’s name. At the time, it listed her as Tituba, which didn’t seem right, but I went with it instead of trying to track down another official confirmation. It’s now been changed to Sheila at IMDB.com and I’m kind of …
