Review: V (1984): 1.10

  • March 23, 2010

by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

Well, this it. The V remake returns tonight and I’ll be reviewing that and stopping the retro reviews until the summer. Episode 10 of the original series is a good point to pause, mainly because it’s a Tyler-centric episode, but also because new characters are introduced and the balance of the show shifts.

We begin with Tyler and Kyle getting captured. Diana is gleeful. Her merriment is interrupted when a shuttle, The Prospero (aliens like their Shakespeare …

Review: V (1984): 1.09

This is an evil-clone episode, which means it ought to be good because a doppelganger can always spice up any evening. After all, who can forget evil Spock with the moustache/goatee? Unfortunately, the other parts of the episode are a Christmas celebration mixed with mother-daughter strife. The result? It sucks.

Let’s begin with the evil-clone part. Diana gets a sample of Elizabeth’s blood via Snow-White subterfuge. An old lady selling Christmas gifts pinches Elizabeth with a corsage, …

Review: V (1984): 1.08

  • March 9, 2010

by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

This was the dullest episode of V I have watched yet. The best part of it was hearing Tyler say, “Faith is for nuns and amateurs” and the very last two minutes of it.

Diana’s got a new scheme cooking. She’s lifting a forcefield around Los Angeles. She needs Nathan’s help in installing a computer relay centre in the city so the forcefield can go up. Nathan agrees to help her because she will grant him a …

Review: V (1984): 1.07

  • March 2, 2010

This episode was fun, despite some issues (see rant on Elizabeth). It had a biker gang, killer sandworms and Diana in a sexy, silver costume. If my memories of the series are correct, the costumes keep getting better and better, with Diana sporting some outrageous fashion statements as the series continues.

First, let’s talk about the bikers. They control a small town and have enslaved its inhabitants, forcing them to mine cobalt for the Vs. The cobalt …

Review: V (1984): 1.06

  • February 23, 2010

Following a pre-established trend, this episode is full of half-naked people. A poolside is probably the most exciting bit of the episode, along with Diana wearing that white suit again, so not exactly a gem. It felt slow and stiff. But kudos for Diana’s sparkly hairdo. There’s no Lydia this time around, though we get a Dark Angel of Dallas, instead.

Let’s begin: the Resistance kills a V guy and they get hold of some documents he …
